Where am I?

You can find me here:

Who am I?

I’ve been “doing IT” for 20+ years, partly in internal IT and partly within MSPs. I started out in application support/development but my background is mainly on the infrastructure side of the fence. Having spent several years specialising in building VMware based platforms and customer migrations, I now spend most of my time working with Microsoft Azure and it’s supporting technologies.

I originally thought I wanted to be a programmer when I “grew up” and I spent a lot of time hacking around in things like Borland Delphi and Visual Basic (before .NET was a thing!) I still love scripting and automation. It’s a big part of what I enjoy about working with “the cloud” and technology in general, so a lot of what I post here is around scripting, automation and Microsoft Azure.

Outside of work, my time is mainly occupied by my Labrador (Rosie), following Formula 1 and flying. I hold a private pilots licence (PPL, Night, IR/R) and part own a light aircraft (PA-28).

Certifications

I think certifications are a great way to both test your knowledge and an opportunity to learn things you might not use on a day to day basis. I currently hold the following certifications:

And just to prove I am as old as I look, I also did these in the dim and distant past:

  • Microsoft® Certified Technology Specialist: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Configuration (Retired)
  • VMware Certified Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization

Microosft seem to have stopped issuing badges, and updates to existing ones, held on the Credly system, so the pretty version of this is now a bit out of date!
